Academic Statement

Dr. Lisa Trocchia is an associate faculty member in the Prescott College Sustainable Food Systems graduate program. She holds an interdisciplinary PhD in the Social Ecology of Food from Ohio University, a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Food Systems from Green Mountain College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Miami University (Ohio).  As an interdisciplinary scholar, Lisa’s primary interests are located in the spaces where food and social change intersect. Dr. Trocchia researches and writes about inclusive democratic food systems structures, the performance of cultural foodways, and the social ecosystems of bioregional food systems as sites of transformative change.

Lisa is also a network activator and facilitator with the Wellbeing and Equity Bridging (WEB) network. She is a network consultant with the Network Weaver Consultants Network and is a member of the Food Systems Leadership Network community of practice. Lisa is also the co-host of Prescott’s pop-up Food Systems Friday webinar series.

Lisa advocates for diversity as an asset and champions multiple ways of knowing to engage students in co-creating rigorous, yet supportive and expansive peer-based learning environments. She positions the study of sustainable food systems and theories of change in a complex adaptive systems context, emphasizing the interconnected nature of economic, political, environmental, and social systems. To her work at Prescott, she brings decades of on-the-ground local food systems practice and over thirty years-experience in non-profit leadership, education, and asset-based, grassroots community organizing.
