I currently serve as Coordinator, M.Ed. - Principal Certification Program at PC . As Associate Professor since 2007, I teach Undergraduate Teacher Prep and Graduate EDL courses (ESL/ SEI Complete, Curriculum Design, Secondary Methods, Reading in Content Areas, Creating and Managing Learning Communities EDU 47040 / 57040, EDL 50030 School Law , Personnel Management, Foundations of School Leadership,and EDL 50040 School Finance) for Prescott College. I also teach Cultural Diversity, Special Education and Classroom Management for Cochise College and Arizona Western College. In addition, I have taught 40 graduate Educational Leadership courses (The Superintendency, The Principalship, School Law, Educational Research, and Multicultural Education) for Northern Arizona University in Nogales, Phoenix and Tucson.
I retired in 2012 upon completing 43 years service in public education, 36 in administration (Elementary Principal, High School Principal, Director of C. & I., Assistant Superintendent), with 20 as Superintendent of Schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Arizona. I served with the Department of Defense Schools (DoDEA) in Europe as an Educational Ethnologist - Minority Achievement Specialist / ESL Program Coordinator for 44 schools.
I have authored: K -12 Multicultural Education Activities Guide, Leadership for Educational Equity: Overcoming Legacies of Colonialism and Education for Global Citizenship. Recent scholarly activities include Presenter and Workshop Leader at 16th Annual International Conference on Learning in Barcelona, July 1-4, 2009 and National Educational Equity Conference: Leadership for Excellence and Equity Forum, February 28-March 1, 2011 in Phoenix, AZ. In April 2014, I visited the Hana Indigenous School on the island of Maui to study the Hawaiian Language and Culture Programs. Most recently In October 2018 I traveled to the University of Malta to confer with Dr. Christopher Bizzina, Associate Dean and Dr. Peter Mayo, Professor Emeritus regarding the establishment of Teacher and Principal Preparation Program exchanges.
My wife, Joy Graves - BS, BSN, MPH, is a Navajo Scholar and Indigenous Rights Advocate. Joy is the daughter of William McCabe, Original Marine Codetalker and Congressional Gold Medal recipient. Joy and I make our home on the Colorado River Indian Reservation.
